Seaford, N.Y. - After two goals scored in the last five minutes, the Adelphi University field hockey team won its road contest against Molloy University on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 2-0.
Amanda Lee broke the scoreless stalemate off a rebound from a pad save of Molloy goalkeeper Kayla Lipscomb with 4:17 to play. Two minutes later, graduate forward
Emiline Biggin fired one of her own home to double the Panther lead and send the visitors home with a victory.
The two teams started the game exchanging opportunities, with the Lions forcing
Allison Gregory to make a save just a couple minutes after the opening whistle. The Brown and Gold went for their own pressure soon after, with eventual goal-scorers Lee and Biggin getting shots at the net. Lipscomb would save two of Adelphi's three shots by quarter's end.
Tight defense in the midfield defined the second frame, as only the Panthers would register the lone shot on goal. Each penalty corner by either team didn't generate any shots, with Biggin's sole tally being blocked by the Molloy defense before the halftime break.
The Brown and Gold began to anchor down in their defense by the second half, eventually holding the hosts without a shot for the final three quarters. With Adelphi's increased presence in the offensive zone, three penalty corners put the 'Cats in a chance to score. While two would garner shots on goal, Lipscomb continued her stellar play in net, later finishing with a dozen saves.
Five penalty corners and 13 shots were the story of the fourth quarter, with Lipscomb saving four of the five shots from the road team. On the third penalty corner of the game, the scramble at the net after
Lana Mignon De Wet's shot that was saved, Lee broke the ice to put hte Panthers on the board.
Sydney Rossacci found Biggin to double the lead after her anticipatory defense in the midfield to give the Brown and Gold their second of the day, sealing the fate at Cedar Creek Park.
