Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Herrera's Conference Leading Eighth Goal Carries Men's Soccer to 2-2 Draw

New Haven, Conn. — After a tough loss to Franklin Pierce last week, the Adelphi men's soccer team looked to bounce back on the road against Southern Connecticut State.

The Owls got off to a hot start at home as they were able to strike in the first fifteen minutes of the game to take a 1-0 lead.

Trailing early, the Panthers did not want to dig themselves into an early hole as they turned on the pressure in the offensive end. Alessio Consoli controlled the ball in the middle of the field before sending a pass to Rory Duggan who would tap it over to Richard DeBrosse for DeBrosse's fifth goal of the season and a tie game.

Adelphi would shake up its lineup, adding three subs but after a goal kick in the 36th minute, SCSU would carry the ball down the field and take a 2-1 lead. The Owls would control the ball for the remainder of the half and take the lead into the break.

The Panthers would lead the attack for the start of the second period but shots by Duggan and Sam Nolan would sail wide. SCSU seemed to be confident in its one goal lead as they parked the bus while the 'Cats kept their attack going.

This strategy did not work for the Owls as with seven minutes remaining, Adelphi would break down the field before Joseph Blackton passed the ball to Pablo Herrera at point blank range. The Spanish native would beat the keeper for his league-high eighth goal of the season and the equalizer. The game would end 2-2 as Santiago Arango ended the match with two saves.

The Panthers scored on both of its shots that were on net and held a two to one advantage on corner kicks.

Head coach Gary Book and the Adelphi men's soccer team will return to the pitch when they host Bridgeport on Saturday at 3 p.m.
