Panthers in the Community - October Roundup

Garden City, N.Y. - Aside from competing, practicing and paying attention to academics, the student-athletes at Adelphi University continue to find time to give back to the community.

Seven athletes from different sports took a quick walk to the Early Learning Center last week to interact with a small class - who was learning to identify sports and the equipment that goes along with it.

"The kids seemed very excited to be able to participate with us," said Robert Molinaro of the baseball team. "We all started playing our sport when we were around their age, and it was enjoyable seeing them interact with each sport many for the first time," he continued.

"Spending time with the kids is a rewarding way to mentor, inspire, and help them develop teamwork and sportsmanship skills from a young age," commented sophomore women's golfer, Lauren Jaskier.

Men's and women's basketball left campus to spend Saturday morning with the youth of the Rockville Centre Basketball League at South Side Middle School. An hour session with each team featured skills, drills and fun games, while the young kids had the chance to learn and interact with the student-athletes.

Wrapping up the weekend and as the month of October comes to a close, the volleyball team participated in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach, hosted by the American Cancer Society.
