Women’s Tennis Falls Short of Back-to-Back Titles, Liedbeck Earns NE-10 Elite 24 Award

West Haven, Conn. — Head coach Rebecca Fakas and the No. 2 seeded Adelphi women's tennis team traveled up to No. 1 seed New Haven on Sunday for the 2024 Northeast-10 championship.

The Chargers would pick up the first point of the match, winning the No. 2 doubles match 6-2 and then rallying for a 6-4 victory in the No. 1 match.

New Haven kept its momentum going into the singles matches as the Chargers picked up two more points with wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 matches. This put the Panthers up against the clock as they needed points in order to keep the championship match going.

Zuzanna Witkowska earned Adelphi's first match with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, continuing her unbeaten streak as the Brown and Gold's No. 2.

Katarina Liedbeck and Genesis Beltran both won the first game in their respective No. 1 and No. 6 matches.

Beltran would drop game two 4-6 before beginning game three.

Liedbeck was victorious in game one, 6-4 but the second game would turn into a battle.

As Liedbeck was tied 4-4 in game two and Beltran moved into game three, New Haven earned a victory in the No. 5 singles which was enough to clinch a 4-1 match victory.

After the match, Liedbeck was honored with the NE10's Elite 24 Award for earning the highest cumulative grade point GPA at the championship site. The junior is currently carrying a 3.985 grade-point-average as a computer science major.

"I am proud of the team for their accomplishments this season and I want to thank everyone who supported us along the way," head coach Rebecca Fakas said. "Today we faced a tough New Haven team and competed until the very end. We will take the lessons learned and look onward to the spring season."

The Panthers will return to the court for the spring season on Sunday, March 23 when they host the District of Columbia.
