Garden City, N.Y. - With what could be described as the 'tale of two sets', the Adelphi University volleyball program outlasted Assumption on Tuesday evening, to secure a 3-0 victory inside the Center for Recreation and Sports.
Led by
Macarty McQueen and
Emilia Cascapera, who each recorded 12 kills apiece, the Panthers (13-7, 3-1 NE10) took a commanding stance after the opening set, in which they held their opponent to single digits.
The second frame played out in a different fashion with the home team coming from behind to steal a 25-20 win, but not without a fight. After falling behind by 10 points, the Cats slowly dug out of their deficit, including a four-point run with
Jaydin Nowak at the service line. It wasn't until back-to-back kills from Kiendra that knotted forced the Greyhounds to call a timeout at 20-19.
Autumn Moore made her way to the line and rattled off six straight serves that all ended with points for the home team, to move ahead to 2-0 in the match.
Assumption managed to take a lead in the third and final set and maintained that position until a kill from Cascapera knotted the contest at 10-10. The frame featured nine tie scores and four lead changes, all en route to and Adelph victory. The Panthers totaled five team blocks in the win and posted a team hitting percentage of .400, with 50 kills to boot.
Adelphi's next match is an Oct. 19 meeting with Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. at 11:00 a.m.
