Waltham, Mass. - Entering the Dana Center to face a Bentley team that was amidst a double-digit win streak, the Adelphi University volleyball team came out ahead of the Falcons on Saturday, handing the home team its first loss in league action following a 3-1 decision.
"Today ended up being a great day because our players really understood the game plan and executed really well," commented Head Coach
Danielle MacKnight. "Every member of our program contributed to the victory today and that all-around support really allowed the success to happen."
After a few quiet games,
Macarty McQueen exploded for a 17-point performance and nearly completed a double-double with nine digs. She also added four block assists to the team's nine total blocks for the match.
Kambel Fiser's 45 assists is her fourth-best in a four-set match this season.
Bentley (12-4,4-1 NE10) aimed to top its 2023 run of 14 games and entered the match winning 12 straight, but after trading set victories, the 'Cats roared back with two wins to snap the streak.
Adelphi (13-7, 2-1 NE10) set the tone early in the first set, collecting 17 kills with just five errors as a team to post a .353 team hitting percentage. With McQueen at the service line, that opened the door for
Delaney Kiendra and
Emilia Cascapera to record kills en route to a a six-point run that put them at set-point.
The Falcons squeaked by with a second set win at 25-22 but were plagued with attack errors in the third that Adelphi took advantage of.
Jamaya Harris capped a 5-0 run in the early going with back-to-back service aces - two of nine for the game - that allowed Adelphi to set up some timely runs to keep the home team at bay.

Kalena Ricketts and
Macarty McQueen all recorded kills down the stretch and rolled to a 25-13 decision.
In the final frame, Bentley led until a seven-point run for Adelphi set them up to head home as the team to hand the Falcons their first conference loss in 2024.
Adelphi returns to the Center for Recreation and Sports on Tuesday, October 15 when they host Assumption University at 7:00 p.m..
