Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - In their highest scoring game since 2022, the Adelphi University field hockey team defeated Mercy University on the road Tuesday afternoon, by a final score of 7-2.
It was the Panthers who established dominance in this one right away, holding the Mavericks without a shot for the entire first quarter.
Emiline Biggin tallied her third goal on the season just under seven minutes in to break the ice.
While the White and Blue were able to get a shot off less than a minute through the next 15,
Amanda Lee doubled the 'Cat lead just two minutes later. By the halftime buzzer, the Brown and Gold had accumulated 14 shots, eight of which were on goal, as well as ten penalty corners.
Ali Nagy was the first to strike in the second half for her team-leading sixth goal on the season, which is also now a new career-high for the senior. Near the end of the third quarter, Charlotte Sabert eliminated the 0 on the scoreboard for Mercy with just over 90 seconds to play in the frame.
The fourth quarter is where scoring began to really accelerate.
Jillian Riche counted her first goal of 2024 a little over four minutes into the frame. This was followed with
Caroline Beakes tallying back-to-back scores, all in just a 2:05 span.
Adelphi continued to leverage the penalty corner, totaling a final number of 18 leading to their 30 shots. While Sabert would tally another for Mercy with under five minutes to play, the scoring was still yet to finish.
Isabella Zullo, with under three minutes to play, would finish the contest by scoring her first career collegiate goal, assisted by
Sydney Flores who also nets her first career point.
