Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lewis Sets New Career-High in Men's Hoops Win at Saint A's, 83-70

Manchester, NH - With the help of six three-pointers, Adelphi University sophomore Elijah Lewis set a new career-high in points with 34 in the men's basketball team's 83-70 victory at Saint Anselm on Saturday.

Never trailing, the Panthers (9-4, 5-2 NE10) picked up just their second win since 2015 over the Hawks (4-9, 2-5 NE10) who drop their fifth consecutive contest. Today's victory also marks the first time Head Coach Dave Duke has defeated Saint Anselm in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Lewis's 34 points led all players as the next highest was the Hawks' Sean McCarthy who posted 24. Also reaching double-digit scoring for the Cats were Dayshaun Walton and Andrew Delaney, who had 12 and 10, respectively.

It was Lewis who opened the game with a make from beyond the arc that saw Adelphi take the lead and never look back for the next 40 minutes. The home team managed to keep the game within reach, never letting the Panthers extend the margin to double-figures. With under two minutes until the conclusion of the first half, Josh Morissette landed a trey that brought the Hawks within one but Delaney drew a foul and made both at the charity tripe to keep the opponent at bay.

Adelphi was nearly perfect at the free throw line in the opener, making eight of nine attempts while the home team made the same amount.

The Panthers wasted no time pulling away from Saint Anselm, making the deficit 10 less than two minutes into action. From there, the visitor lead grew to at-most 27 with the help of a 10-0 scoring run and 22 points in the paint throughout the half. The team's 56 percent field goal shooting helped as much as the collective 43 rebounds pulled down compared to the Hawks' 28. When Adelphi has grabbed 40 or more rebounds in a game this season, it has resulted in a victory (vs. Caldwell and Bridgeport).

Both teams had 18 points off the bench for the contest, but Adelphi held the advantage in second chance points with 15, while Saint A's only had five.

Adelphi returns to its home court on Wednesday, January 10 to host Franklin Pierce University in doubleheader NE10 action.
