Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Wins Four Straight With 2024 Opener Over SNHU, 84-81

Garden City, N.Y. - In a game that featured highs, lows and makes beyond the arc, the Adelphi University men's basketball team outlasted Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, to open the 2024 slate with an 84-81 victory.

With the win, Adelphi (8-4, 4-2 NE10) marks the third consecutive game that the team has drained double-digit three-pointers, led by Matthew Price and Seth Brown, who each contributed four from beyond the arc. Dayshaun Walton led all players with 22 points pulling down seven boards on the defensive end.

The Panthers lived by the three-ball in the early going, knocking down five en route to a commanding 17-3 lead over the Penmen. Southern New Hampshire (8-3, 4-2 NE10) was held to just three points in the first five minutes, and committed three turnovers in the stretch. Over the following four minutes, the visitors used 6-of-7 shooting from the field to put together a 16-0 run in which the hosts were held scoreless to take the lead at 19-17.

An even run of 25 points for either side throughout the second half of the opening frame saw the Penmen with a two-point edge at the break. Fourteen of Walton's 22 points came in the first half as the team went nearly 50 percent from three-point range.

A 10-6 run in favor of the Brown and Gold, capped with a Kenyoue Ondaan lay-in, put Adelphi in the driver's seat. Southern New Hampshire knotted the game at 65-all on a Preston Santos trey, but a response from Elijah Lewis on the other end was what the Panthers needed to keep their edge through the remainder of the contest.

Brown's contributions included three of his four three-pointers in the second half alone, putting in nine of the team's 11 bench points. On the opposite side, SNHU outrebounded the Cats but fell short from the field and were only 1-for-9 from downtown.

Head Coach Dave Duke and the team return to action on Saturday, Jan. 6 when they head to Saint Anselm College for a 3:30 p.m. tip. Following that NE10 matchup, the Panthers will be in Garden City for their next three contests.
