Women's Basketball Denied Second-Half Comeback By AIC, 68-64

Springfield, Mass. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team again fell into an early hole it couldn't get out of, in a 68-64 loss at the hands of American International College in NE10 action Saturday at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.

A losing streak that now sits at nine consecutive games, Adelphi has dipped to 4-15 overall and 2-11 in league play.

Four players finished in double figures, highlighted by Jenna Jordan's near double-double of 16 points and nine rebounds. Kaitlyn O'Connell made four three-pointers in a 14-point game. Rolanda Robinson and Isabella Asencio added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The halftime deficit stood at a startling 34-20 for the Panthers, who committed 12 first-half turnovers and shot 30.8 percent (8-for-26) from the field.

Adelphi outscored AIC by a 10-point margin in the second half, but came up just short in its comeback bid.

A pair of free throws by Lauren Beberman and O'Connell had what was once a 16-point deficit trimmed to 48-41 after three quarters of play.

The 'Cats shot a sizzling 53.8 percent (14-for-26) over the final twenty and were within a three-point play of tying the score with 1:33 left in the fourth quarter.

Although Asencio sank the game-tying freebie, the shot was waved off for a lane violation, keeping the Yellow Jackets (11-8, 6-7 NE10) ahead by a point. AIC's Ruzgar Christina Boyle then hit a three on the team's next offensive possession to strike the dagger.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and her Adelphi squad will look to right the ship on Tuesday (Jan. 30) at home, with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against Pace University at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
