Garden City, N.Y. - On Tuesday night, the Adelphi University women's basketball went up against a tall task in reigning NCAA Division II East Region champion Assumption University at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
A team that received votes in this week's WBCA Division II Top 25 rankings, Assumption prevailed 64-50Â to drop the Panthers to 4-12 overall and 2-8 in NE10 competition.
Graduate forward
Jenna Jordan -- who came into tonight's action as the team's leading scorer at 14.1 points per game -- accounted for the team's first 10 points in a close 17-12 opening quarter that favored Assumption (12-3, 7-3 NE10).
The 'Cats fell into an offensive funk in the second quarter though. A near five-minute drought without a field goal caused the Greyhounds to jump out to a 34-23 halftime advantage.
Seven players appeared in the scoring column for Assumption in the first half, while just four found the scoresheet for Adelphi -- headlined by Jordan's 10.
At over 44.0 percent shooting for the contest, the Greyhounds used a 23-12 third-quarter outburst to cruise to their fourth win in as many games.
Freshman guard
Isabella Asencio dropped a career-high 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting in the effort. Jordan was the other Panther in double figures with 12 points.
Head Coach
Sade Jackson and her Adelphi squad now make the trek up to Colchester, Vt. for a 1:30 p.m. opening tip at Saint Michael's College on Saturday (Jan. 20).
