Saint Rose Frustrates Women's Basketball in 61-47 Defeat

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's basketball team still awaits its first win of 2024, following a 61-47 loss to The College of Saint Rose on Saturday at the Center for Recreation and Sport.

Saint Rose (11-2, 7-2 NE10) worked the inside effectively from the tip, netting all twelve first-quarter points in the paint and grabbing an early eight-point lead.

While Isabella Asencio had the 'Cats in front to start the second quarter, Saint Rose closed out the half on an 18-6 run that gave the visitors a 32-21 halftime cushion.

The Golden Knights displayed a strong interior presence through the first twenty minutes, scoring 24 of their 32 first-half points inside the paint.

Asencio accounted for a majority of Adelphi's first-half scoring. Her nine points led all Panthers (4-11, 2-7 NE10). Rolanda Robinson and Jenna Jordan accounted for six points each.

Robinson netted back-to-back buckets in the third that cut Saint Rose's lead to 32-27, but the visitors soon grew their lead back to double digits, thwarting Adelphi's comeback.

Although the 'Cats outscored Saint Rose 16-5 on second-chance opportunities, the Golden Knights had a significant advantage on the Panthers in the paint, 34-24.

Jordan finished up strong and paced all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, to go along with nine rebounds. Robinson tallied 12 points, and Asencio had 11 points in the effort.

Head Coach Sade Jackson and her Adelphi squad wrap up a three-game homestand Tuesday (Jan. 16) against Assumption University at the Center for Recreation and Sport at 5:30 p.m.
