Garden City, N.Y. - Garden City, N.Y. - With the turn of the calendar year, the Adelphi University department of athletics is pleased to announce new leadership for the Panther Club, the official organization dedicated to the support of the department and its over 400 student-athletes.
Adelphi alumnus and men's lacrosse player, Bob Quinn '86, has assumed the role of president effective immediately. Quinn replaces long-time former President Dennis Lind '88, who initially served the Panther Club in that capacity under the direction of former Athletic Director Bob Hartwell and President Robert A. Scott. This appointment marks just the third president since the club's inception in 1992, when Steven Wirth '70 was in the position.
"I would like to personally thank Dennis for his commitment to Adelphi Athletics and the Panther Club," commented McCabe. "When I was hired in this role 10 years ago, Dennis was one of the first Adelphi people to reach out to me and extend a warm welcome - he helped me in so many ways over the years and I will miss his guidance and leadership of the club but will leverage his experience in other ways."
Quinn played for the legendary Paul 'Doc' Doherty from 1983-1986, while the program operated at the Division I level. He was the team's leading scorer for the 1984 season with 24 goals. Currently employed at Tullett Prebon Financial Services LLC, Quinn has been a supporter of the men's lacrosse program and athletics department by attending marquee events such as the annual Golf Classic and Hall of Fame events.
"It is both an honor and a privilege to take on this position and I look forward to working with the rest of the executive board and administration to build upon all the great work done by Dennis [Lind]," said Quinn.
Lind has been a mainstay and key organizer who grew the Panther Club's profile in its initial quest to better re-engage and align Athletics Alumni with current University priorities. He's been an active participant, supporting the department's marquee events, all while serving as a connector of people who engaged his classmates, teammates, friends, and family. Many of whom became regulars at Adelphi events as well. During his tenure the club once had close to 400 supporting members.
In 2018, he was honored with the Frank Cassell Award, which recognizes an individual who makes contributions above and beyond to Adelphi Athletics.
"My tenure as President of the Panther Club really exceeded any expectations I may have had coming in," said Lind. "Whether it was driving attendance at events, fundraising for department priorities (such as team travel, facilities improvements, Championship Rings…) or supporting coaches and student-athletes, it's been great to be involved in college athletics. Athletic Director Danny McCabe and Associate Athletic Director Emily Dorko have always engaged me in interesting and key initiatives supporting student- athletes, coaches, and alumni. The Club is in great hands with Bob [Quinn] and I'll support this team along with President Riordan any way I can!"
"Dennis's friendship remains as does his passion for Adelphi and our teams, so I look forward to spending time with him on other initiatives and events as we always have done," said McCabe.
