East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Powered by four third-quarter goals from the home team, the No. 8 Adelphi University field hockey team fell in its match-up on the road with No. 1 East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday by a final score of 8-1.
After both top ten ranked squads spent the initial 10 minutes feeling each other out, East Stroudsburg's Allyson Forman opened the scoring after a feed from Minke Klijn. The rest of the first half was marked by defense, with goalie
Amanda Montiel saving six of the Warriors' 15 shots in the first 30 minutes. The Panthers also fended off six penalty corners in that time span.
The offense began to open up at the start of the third quarter, when the Warriors put up four tallies -- each from a different player -- in an eight-minute span to extend the lead to 5-0.
The fourth quarter saw a continued attack from East Stroudsburg, starting with another three goals in the first seven minutes.
The Brown and Gold began to improve throughout the period with seven saves between the pipes from Montiel and
Fiona Mannion. The visitors also defended four penalty corners and added a defensive save from
Hailey Galison.
As the game neared its conclusion,
Emiline Biggin found some space in the crease to grab her first goal of the season, with the assist coming from
Ali Nagy, to put the Panthers on the board. Montiel finished with 15 saves.

Jess Mulhern and Adelphi will conclude a short two-game trip in Pennsylvania with their match-up vs. West Chester next Tuesday, September 12 in West Chester, Pa. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
