Manchester, N.H. - In a crucial NE10 showdown Saturday afternoon, the No. 16 Adelphi University women's soccer team outlasted Southern New Hampshire University, 1-0, at Ouellette Stadium in Manchester, N.H.
The win snaps a nine-year drought for the Panthers (7-1-1, 4-0-1 NE10), who had not prevailed against the Penmen (3-2-3, 0-1-2 NE10) on the road since 2014.
In their previous three regular-season meetings in Manchester dating back to 2016, SNHU outscored Adelphi by a 6-2 margin.
A 15th-minute goal by
Kayla Mushorn held up for the entirety of the contest. The goal was Mushorn's third of 2023 -- tying a career-high -- as well as her third game-winner of the season.
Off a free kick nearly fifteen minutes into the contest, Mushorn -- unlike her usual long-distance strikes -- headed
Morgan Salmon's service into the left corner of the goal.
Although SNHU had the advantage in possession, Adelphi still had 14 shots to the Penmen's 11.
Krista Aliscio stopped all four shots on target to preserve her fifth shutout.
As the final seconds ticked down before halftime, Aliscio denied a Victoria Roulston tap-in at the far post to keep Adelphi ahead at the break.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers now come home to welcome in Pace University on Tuesday (Oct. 3) at 7 p.m. at Motamed Field.
