Manchester, N.H. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team continued its rampant start Friday evening with a stunning 5-2 result over NE10 preseason favorite Southern New Hampshire University at the Mark A. Ouellette Stadium Tennis Courts in Manchester.
It marks Adelphi's (4-0, 3-0 NE10) first regular-season victory against SNHU since 2019, when the 'Cats clawed their way to an NE10 regular-season championship, behind a 9-1 league finish.
Not withstanding losing the doubles point, Adelphi dominated the singles portion of the match to surge to the top of the NE10 standings.
Two-time defending NE10 Rookie of the Week
Roisin Boyd handled SNHU's Dajana Abadzic at No. 3 singles in a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Fellow freshman
Astrid Bergh followed right behind with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in fourth singles. On the No. 5 court,
Caterina Federici won convincingly by a 6-2, 6-1 scoreline.
Reigning NE10 Rookie of the Year
Sanne Selmer Gilje and 2023 ITA East Region doubles champion
Katarina Liedbeck put the finishing touches on the match.
Selmer Gilje rode a 7-1 tiebreaker to a straight-set result at top singles, while Liedbeck went to a third-set tiebreak and triumphed 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 10-7 at the No. 2 flight.

Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad will now take the weekend to prepare for Assumption University at home on Tuesday (Sept. 26) at 10 a.m. in Garden City, N.Y.
