Women's Soccer Bounces Back in Strong Fashion; Blanks Molloy, 1-0

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team avenged Thursday's season-opening loss with a 1-0 win over Molloy University on Saturday at Motamed Field.

With a packed house for a match between local rivals, the Panthers played a complete ninety minutes to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Adelphi dominated from start to finish, outshooting Molloy 16-2 and also outpossessing its opposition at a stellar clip of 61 percent.

The Panthers earned thirteen corner kicks -- their most in a single game since 2016 -- and converted off of one in the 22nd minute.

From the far flag, Morgan Salmon played a perfect ball towards the near post that reigning NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year Madison Apicella got a head on for what proved to be the game's only goal.

As the match carried into the second half, Kayleigh Goodrich was sent off for her second yellow in the 76th minute, forcing the 'Cats to have to play with ten players for the remaining 14:04.

Molloy (0-1-1) was limited to one shot apiece in both halves -- neither of which caused Krista Aliscio to have to make a save.

Head Coach Brooke DeRosa and her team's season-opening homestand continues Wednesday (Sept. 6) on Welcome Back Night against Holy Family University at 6 p.m. at Motamed Field.
