Springfield, Mass. - Another first-half penalty failed to stand up for the Adelphi University men's soccer team, this time Saturday afternoon in a 3-1 loss to Post University at AIC's Ronald J. Abdow Field in Springfield.
For the second time in as many games, the Panthers (0-2) grabbed the early lead with a PK.
After
Pablo Herrera successfully converted on Thursday,
Victor Castel took his turn and finished the penalty into the lower-right corner of the goal.
Although the 'Cats took a 1-0 lead into halftime,
Alessio Consoli nearly doubled Adelphi's lead before the break, but struck the crossbar off a giveaway.
Adelphi continued to search for that additional goal to start the second half, until Post responded with three unanswered tallies.
In a span of less than six minutes, the Eagles (1-0-1)Â took the lead for good. Francisco Sousa netted the difference maker for Post in the 66th minute.
The Panthers were almost held shotless for the remainder of the contest, while Sousa added his second tally of the game in the final minutes.
Following his career-high-tying seven-save outing,
Daniel De La Heras bested that performance with eight stops in the match.
Head Coach
Gary Book and his Adelphi squad are next in action on Wednesday (Sept. 6), with a 3 p.m. kickoff at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
