Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - As the 'Cats prepare to play their first home match of 2023 this weekend, the Adelphi University men's soccer team played Mercy University to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference tune-up Wednesday in Dobbs Ferry.
The Panthers have led in each of their first three contests this year, but moved to 0-2-1 overall with the result.
In a game that saw only sixteen shots, Adelphi led 5-1 in attempts in the first half and converted for the only tally of the period.
As the clock ticked under ten minutes before halftime,
Luca Boast -- in the thick of an Adelphi counter -- drilled a shot from distance that banked off the right post and into the net.
Playing from behind at home, Mercy (1-1-1) felt refreshed after the second-half hydration break and almost immediately tied the game upon restart.
In the 73rd minute,
Aleksei Armas got sent off with his second yellow card of the game, forcing Adelphi to have to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match.
Both teams were still unable to generate a scoring opportunity in the final 17:57, leading to the game finishing in an even 1-1 tie.
Jesper Mikkelsen and
Rory Duggan each tallied two shots in the effort for the 'Cats, and
Daniel De La Heras made three saves between the pipes.
