Garden City, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University women's soccer team used a four-goal second half to open its 2023 NE10 slate with a 5-0 rout of Assumption University at Motamed Field.
Since losing their opening game against Wilmington, the Panthers (4-1, 1-0 NE10) have won four in a row and outscored their opposition 9-1 in that stretch.
Adelphi managed to dominate the possession numbers in the first half, but only led 1-0 at the break.
Less than nine minutes into the match,
Kayla Mushorn intercepted an Assumption giveaway in the midfield and took her space to unleash a shot from distance that found the upper-left 90. The goal resulted in the fourth game-winner of her career.
The onslaught continued into the second half, as Adelphi outshot Assumption 19-5 in the latter forty-five minutes and cashed in four more times.
And again, the Panthers capitalized on Greyhound mistakes. Minutes into the start of the half,
Madison Apicella took over deep in Assumption's end and planted a left-footed strike inside the far post.
Adelphi wasn't done just yet.
Sophia Cataldo and
Kayleigh Goodrich each netted their first collegiate goals forty seconds apart, and
Carly Issing netted her first tally of 2023 in the 73rd minute.
Head Coach
Brooke DeRosa and the Panthers will now hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to West Haven, Conn. on Tuesday (Sept. 19) for a 4 p.m. kickoff at University of New Haven.
