Garden City, N.Y. - For the first time in 2023, the Adelphi University men's soccer team has a clean sheet to its ledger, after Tuesday's 3-0 shutout of Chestnut Hill College at Motamed Field.
Possessing the ball for nearly sixty percent of the match, Adelphi (2-2-1) set a season-high with 20 shots -- more than half of which were on target.
The Panthers turned up the offensive intensity from the get-go, and grabbed the initial lead on
Jesper Mikkelsen's first tally of the season in the 27th minute.
Adelphi -- which has scored first in each of its first four games thus far -- made Mikkelsen's goal stand up through ninety minutes.
The Brown and Gold weren't done though. As the first half came to a close,
Tim Cleere played a cross towards the near post that Chestnut Hill's Jose Cuadra re-directed into his net for an own goal.
An impressive first half was followed by an even-more-dominant second half. The 'Cats outshot the Griffins 13-4 in the latter forty-five and tacked on a third goal along the way, courtesy of a
Pablo Herrera strike.
Reigning NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week
Daniel De La Heras made three saves to earn his 11th career clean sheet, placing him among the school's Top 10 career shutout leaders.
Head Coach
Gary Book and the Panthers now commence NE10 play with a 4 p.m. kickoff at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday (Sept. 16) in Manchester, N.H.
