No. 8 Field Hockey Wins at Molloy in 2023 Season Opener, 6-1

Seaford, N.Y. - On the back of four first-quarter goals, the No. 8 Adelphi University field hockey team earned its first win at Molloy on Thursday afternoon by a final score of 6-1 in its first outing of 2023.

The Panthers didn't take long to strike first, with the efforts of Faith Dillon reflecting on the scoreboard just over two minutes into the contest.

Junior Amanda Lee would eventually net two goals in the quarter, the first of which came on a defensive breakdown that included five steals for the 'Cats and Lee going 70 yards for the score. Transfer Kelly Johnson joined the fun as well, netting her first goal in an Adelphi uniform.

Molloy got on the board following Madi Stuckart's goal near the end of the first half to go into the break down just 4-1. The third quarter was highlighted by defense, as the home team had eight shots on goal, which starting goalie Amanda Montiel saved five of.

The Brown and Gold added two insurance goals in the fourth quarter, both courtesy of junior Ali Nagy. The first score came off an offensive rebound with an array of defenders at the net. Nagy tallied her second with less than three minutes to play, with the feed coming from transfer Sydney Rossacci.

Adelphi suits up again tomorrow night (Sept. 1) for its home opener, when the Panthers host Newberry College at Motamed Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
