Worcester, Mass. - At minimum, the Adelphi University men's tennis team has earned a bye into the semifinals of the 2023 NE10 Championship, following Saturday's 7-0 sweep of Assumption University in its regular-season conference finale in Worcester.
The Panthers can finish no lower than the No. 3 seed now, and will play in one of the championship semifinals on Thursday, April 20.
Additionally, the Brown and Gold have double-digit wins for the first time since the 2015-16 season, improving to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in NE10 matches.
All but one of the singles matches finished in straight sets.
Henrique Souza -- in his first start of the spring -- provided the clinching point at No. 6 singles.
Marko Jovanovic and
Gabriel Balestero dominated at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively, to the tune of 6-0, 6-3 scorelines.
Jovanovic and
Reece Farrow started to put the clamp on the team doubles point, winning 6-1 at the No. 3 flight.
Thomas Horsley and
Thiago Negrao followed with a 6-3 decision at second doubles.
