Leggio Leads Scoring in #9 Women's Lacrosse 18-6 Win at Saint Mike's

Colchester, VT - With four goals from rookie Alexandra Leggio, the no. 9 Adelphi University women's lacrosse team won it's third consecutive on Saturday, defeating Saint Michael's College 18-6.

Behind Leggio, Danielle Marino contributed a hat trick - while adding three assists - as Izzy Grant was also responsible for six points in the victory.

Adelphi (8-3, 6-1 NE10) worked its way out to a five-goal advantage in the first quarter before the Purple Knights got on the board at 3:44. Marino tacked on a pair of tallies before time expired to give the Panthers a 7-1 advantage heading into the second frame.

Nine goals split between both squads highlighted the second, with the Panthers maintaining a seven-goal lead at the conclusion of the opening half.

Momentum returned to the visitors who padded their side of the scoreboard with another five tallies, keeping Saint Mike's to a solo score in the third. Tamia Lawson was credited with back to back goals within a three minute span and Kerrin Heuser's shot past Hope Msumba sent the game to running time. The Purple Knights did not score for the remainder of the contest, which equated to a time frame of nearly 25 minutes.

Alison Turner found Jamie Mecca for the lone goal in the fourth with 2:15 left in regulation, as the ball went up and down the field with neither team capitalizing during their offensive possession. Adelphi's Samantha Pugh was responsible for two caused turnovers in the frame and Madison Pappas won both draw controls in the period.

Women's lacrosse will host the College of Saint Rose on Wednesday, Apr. 12 in conjunction with a Northeast-10 Conference-wide initiative in support of student-athlete mental health and the Morgan's Message organization.
