Garden City, N.Y. - With first place on the line, two-time defending NE10 Tournament champion Le Moyne College proved too much for the Adelphi University men's tennis team in a 6-1 decision at the Adelphi Tennis Courts on Friday.
In the team's first match of the spring on their own courts, the Panthers snapped a winning streak of five consecutive matches and fell to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in NE10 competition.
Adelphi has already clinched a first-round bye to the semifinals of the 2023 NE10 Championship, and can host as the No. 2 seed with a win on Sunday at Assumption.
Graduate player
Gabriel Balestero appears very much in line for his first NE10 All-Conference singles honor, after a 6-4, 6-2 result over Le Moyne's Ethan Miller.
Balestero now stands at 4-1 in NE10 singles play through Friday's match, and will look to conclude his conference season with a flourish tomorrow.
Hugo Munoz Reinoso and
Reece Farrow each played a tiebreaker in their respective singles matches at the No. 2 and No. 5 flights, respectively.
Viktor Hockl and
Thiago Negrao both took their opponents to decisive third sets, after rallying off an opening-set loss.
Originally scheduled for Apr. 1, the Panthers will travel to Worcester, Mass. to face Assumption University in their 2022-23 conference finale at 1 p.m.
