Garden City, N.Y. - On the back of a 6-3 second half comeback, the Adelphi University men's lacrosse team fell to top-ranked and undefeated Le Moyne College Tuesday afternoon at Motamed Field by a final score of 10-9.
The Panthers (14-2, 8-2 NE10) had a very strong first quarter, scoring the game's first five tallies including two from
Dylan Barry. The road team finally got themselves on the board at the 1:42 mark of the opening frame with Sam Lambert's strike. The opening 13:18 stretch is the longest the Dolphins have been held scoreless this season, and tied for their lowest scoring output in a quarter with just one (vs. #2 Mercy, 2/19/23).
The second frame saw more road momentum build, after an opening minute score from
Brian Harinski, Le Moyne controlled the rest of the quarter. They went on to score the final three including Lambert's second score making the halftime score 6-4.
The third quarter is where the visitors began to dig in on their defense, shutting out the home team for the entire 15 minutes. The defense had multiple shining moments, forcing the 'Cats into three consecutive shot clock violations along with four turnovers and not letting the home squad secure a single faceoff. While the Panthers were held scoreless, they only allowed one goal to get on the scoreboard courtesy of leading visiting point-getter, Joey Pezzimenti.
Down one, heading into the final 15 minutes of action, the finale saw more scoring come into play with four goals in the opening five minutes. Le Moyne was able to take their first lead at the 10:35 mark after Pezzimenti fired home his third of the night. The 'Fins tacked on two more for insurance to increase their lead to 10-7 with 6:15 to go. All-American
Joseph Duchnowski got his second goal of the game just 14 seconds later to answer, with Harinski adding to the run 49 seconds after that one to cut the lead down to just one goal at 10-9.
While the 'Cats had good offensive chances towards the end of regulation, untimely turnovers ultimately sealed Adelphi's fate, as the clock struck double zero's at 10-9 for their second consecutive loss.
The Panthers will now await the result of Bentley vs. Southern New Hampshire to determine their fate in the NE10 conference tournament. An update will be posted following the league announcement set to be released later this evening.
