Oceanside, N.Y. - With the team's biggest regular-season match on deck, the Adelphi University men's tennis team handled Bentley University, 7-0, on Sunday at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.
Five days from now, the Panthers (9-5, 4-0 NE10) will meet Le Moyne College in a head-to-head showdown for first-place bragging rights in the conference.
The doubles point was already in Adelphi's grasp, before Bentley (5-5, 1-2 NE10)Â earned what was its only win of the day at the No. 2 flight.
Hugo Munoz Reinoso and
Gabriel Balestero took their top-doubles match by a 6-2 scoreline.
Marko Jovanovic and
Reece Farrow prevailed 6-3 in third doubles.
Jovanovic and Reinoso then led off singles with back-to-back straight-set victories, winning 6-2, 6-0, and 6-3, 6-2, respectively, at the No. 1 and No. 2 flights.
Viktor Hockl (6-2, 6-4) and
Thomas Horsley (6-1, 6-2) needed just the minimum amount of sets, as well, at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Panthers are in search of their first win over Le Moyne since 2017. A win for Adelphi would clinch the 'Cats their first-ever NE10 regular-season title. The match gets underway Friday (Apr. 7) from Garden City at 2 p.m.
