Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#2 Men's Lacrosse Outlasts #6 Mercy, 14-12

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - Jason Rebaudo tallied a team high seven points behind a hat trick and four helpers to lead no. 2 Adelphi men's lacrosse to victory over #6 Mercy College on Wednesday, 14-12.

The teams traded goals to start off the contest, but Kyle Lewis's dart at 4:22 in the first gave Adelphi its first lead of the game. The Mavericks, who drop their first game at Mercy Field this season with the loss, scored the next two to regain the advantage, but Lewis kickstarted a run that put the Panthers up for good.

Holding the hosts to just one tally in the third quarter, Adelphi kept coming up with huge neutral zone picks and caused turnovers to explode for six goals in the frame. Netminder Dylan Renner logged four saves in both the second and third periods to hold Mercy to three goals. Five different goal scorers contributed to the score after the home team made it 6-5 in favor of the Panthers, to see the visitors lead by double once the horn sounded.

With the first goal of the final 15 minutes of regulation from Brian Harinski, the Brown and Gold - although wearing all-black uniforms on the road - let up the next four tallies to see Mercy cut their six goal margin down to two. Jack Gibbons, a preseason All-American, took advantage of a man-up possession that made it 11-9. Rebaudo found Joseph Duchnowski, his hat trick goal, to score 15 seconds following the Mavericks ninth score, and then Kyle Steinbach added another to keep the hosts at bay.

Mercy made it a game with under three minutes to play, scoring three times to come within one wtih 1:28 left on the clock. A faceoff win for Brian Hoerter, who went 15-for-30 at the X with 12 ground balls, allowed Head Coach Gordon Purdie to call a time out and set up a Duchnowski to Rebaudo situation to made it a two-goal advantage. Despite a Mercy victory at the following faceoff, Ryan Butler came up big with a caused turnover to seal the deal for the Panthers to remain undefeated this season, with two games left in the regular season.

The men's lacrosse team will recognize the graduating members of its program ahead of Saturday's contest against Bentley. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. with festivities likely starting at 12:30 p.m.
