Garden City, N.Y. - Concluding the regular season at home, the no. 9 Adelphi University women's lacrosse program suffered its second straight loss on Tuesday, falling 13-8 to no. 18 Bentley on Motamed Field.
Starting off with the first tally of the game, the Panthers (9-5, 7-3 NE10) were outmatched in the opening frame and trailed by three after the first 15 minutes of action. Four different goal scorers for the Falcons (9-4, 7-2 NE10) found the back of the cage to take the advantage after the early going.
Back-to-back goals from
Kerrin Heuser cut into the Bentley lead, but the visitors added two more before the halftime break to double the scoring output of the home team.
Their momentum carried into the third frame as they scored the first and before
Danielle Marino's tally made it 7-4 in favor of the Falcons. It was Maeve Johnson of Bentley that added her third and fourth tallies of the contest to keep the hosts at bay.
Down five, Adelphi managed to score three goals in the first five minutes of the final quarter in regulation, but it was too great of a deficit to overcome as the visitors converted two free position attempts late to add to their side of the scoreboard. In all, the contest was evenly matched, but the Falcons were awarded seven free position attempts to the Panthers five and the home team was 17-for-21 in the clear game compared to nearly perfectly Bentley (15-of-16).
The program will spend its last two games of the conference schedule on the road when they take on Franklin Pierce (Apr. 22) and wrap up at American International on Apr. 29.
