Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#9 Women's Lacrosse Dropped By #7 Dolphins, 14-8

Syracuse, N.Y. - Adelphi University women's lacrosse found themselves down after the opening quarter and struggled to regain an edge on Saturday, ultimately falling 14-8 to no. 7 Le Moyne College at Ted Grant Field.

Kelly-Ann McGrath contributed a pair of goals and won a team-leading nine draw controls, as Kerrin Heuser and Danielle Marino were also each held to a pair of tallies each.

Tamia Lawson scored the first goal of the contest for the Panthers (9-4, 7-2 NE10), but Le Moyne's Jessica Meneilly rattled off the next four goals to put the visitors back by four. The Dolphins (11-2, 7-1 NE10) tacked on one more before the frame was through to lead 5-1.

Another Adelphi goal kicked off the second quarter but after a sixth goal from Le Moyne, the aforementioned trio put together three unanswered to trail by one before the break. McGrath kicked off the third frame with the equalizer at 13:40, but the 'Phins put a string of six goals together into the fourth to double the Panthers' score, 12-6.

Giovanna Zapparrata converted a free-position shot to cut the deficit to five, but netminder Paige Crandall logged three key saves to keep the visiting team at bay.

The Panthers were unsuccessful four times in the clearing game, and committed five more turnovers than the home team. It was Adelphi who held a commanding 18-8 advantage in draw controls, including a 7-0 edge in the fourth alone, but were unable to find the back of the cage.

The women's lacrosse program will celebrate the senior/graduating class at their next home game on Tuesday, April 18 prior to the opening draw control. Festivities will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. with the game starting at 5:00 p.m.
