Pomona, N.Y. - After falling to the Chargers at home back on Mar. 29, the Adelphi University baseball team got its re-match with Dominican University on Thursday at Clover Stadium and won by a convincing 17-7 final.
With the team on its bye week, the Panthers sent ace
John Rizzo to the mound. Coming off back-to-back strong starts, Rizzo took the ball for five scoreless innings and five strikeouts.
Wednesday's hero,
Joe Pellegrino, worked a walk with the bases loaded in the first, and the rout was on from there.
Senior catcher
Jose Matos, who batted 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the afternoon, aided in the first-inning onslaught with an RBI double to left-center field.
In his second career start,
Nick Lopez reached base safely in his first two at-bats -- including a first-inning RBI double that helped the 'Cats to a 6-0 advantage.
By the midway point of the contest, the Panthers' lead was up to an almost-insurmountable 16-0 difference.
Fellow starter
Jordan Falco followed Rizzo on the hill and went two scoreless with a pair of strikeouts.
John Carver and
Nick Gavilla each toed the rubber for an inning.
