Baseball Retaliates Against Dominican on Road, 17-7

Pomona, N.Y. - After falling to the Chargers at home back on Mar. 29, the Adelphi University baseball team got its re-match with Dominican University on Thursday at Clover Stadium and won by a convincing 17-7 final.

With the team on its bye week, the Panthers sent ace John Rizzo to the mound. Coming off back-to-back strong starts, Rizzo took the ball for five scoreless innings and five strikeouts.

Wednesday's hero, Joe Pellegrino, worked a walk with the bases loaded in the first, and the rout was on from there.

Senior catcher Jose Matos, who batted 3-for-3 with four RBIs in the afternoon, aided in the first-inning onslaught with an RBI double to left-center field.

In his second career start, Nick Lopez reached base safely in his first two at-bats -- including a first-inning RBI double that helped the 'Cats to a 6-0 advantage.

By the midway point of the contest, the Panthers' lead was up to an almost-insurmountable 16-0 difference.

Fellow starter Jordan Falco followed Rizzo on the hill and went two scoreless with a pair of strikeouts. John Carver and Nick Gavilla each toed the rubber for an inning.

Head Coach Bill Ianniciello and the Panthers welcome in Bentley University for a three-game series next weekend (Apr. 21-22) in Garden City. The final two games Saturday will be preceded by a commemoration of the 30-year anniversary of the 1993 College World Series team, as well as the unveiling of a banner in Ron Davies' memory.
