Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Purdie Ties All-Time Wins Record as No. 2 Men’s Lacrosse Tames Molloy, 11-7

Garden City, N.Y. -  As the no. 2 Adelphi University men's lacrosse team took down cross-town rival Molloy University at Motamed Field on Wednesday, 11-7, head coach Gordon Purdie tied the legendary Paul "Doc" Doherty in wins (184).

"Although I have now matched my mentor and former coach Paul Doherty's all-time wins record at Adelphi University with 184, I know in my heart that his impact on my life and the lives of the Adelphi lacrosse Alumni/our program extends far beyond just this number," commented Coach Purdie postgame.

"To me, his legacy is not just about the wins we now share, but about the lessons he taught me and the culture he instilled which has given me strength and passion to lead this team."

Four different players each chipped in a pair of goals in the victory, with a team-leading four points from Jack Hipchen. Despite allowing seven goals, Dylan Renner picked up his 12th win between the pipes to remain undefeated with 12 saves.

After a stalemate in the first seven minutes of play, the home team finally found their stride scoring the game's first four goals in a 5:52 stretch.

The Lions (7-6) scored before the first quarter buzzer to cut the deficit to three. The second frame saw two goals for each side including Hipchen's second tally, keeping the margin the same for a 6-3 halftime score.

The third quarter saw the 'Cats gain a slight advantage thanks to their three strikes to the road team's two. The frame had a combined 10 turnovers from the teams, but Kyle Steinbach gave the hosts the advantage with his goal with 46 seconds left on the clock.

Molloy's Konrad Maciejny opened the final quarter with his second of the game and trimmed the Adelphi lead back down to three. After nearly nine minutes without a goal, while the teams continued to show their defensive prowess, the Panthers' Joseph Duchnowski netted his second shortly followed by a finish from Logan Tucker to put the game away at 2:38.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday (Apr. 15), when they take on Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, N.H. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
