Pellegrino's Two Homers Deliver Baseball Back to Winning Ways, 10-7

West Chester, Pa. - In the first of back-to-back road games, the Adelphi University baseball team earned a 10-7 come-from-behind win against West Chester University at Serpico Stadium on Wednesday.

Even after staking the Panthers (13-20) to a first-inning lead with a three-run jack, Joe Pellegrino sliced a game-winning home run down the left-field line in the sixth.

Pellegrino's four-hit day is the first of his collegiate career, while his two homers match his season-high from the team's historic 27-25 win at Lynn back on Mar. 13.

West Chester (20-11) worked a pair of early two-out rallies against Adelphi starter Carlos Acosta, and evened the score at 4-all by the end of the second inning.

In the third, the Rams were now leading 7-4.. A pair of fielding errors by Michael Draskin helped drive around the go-ahead runs at the time for WCU.

A combined six innings of shutdown relief by Robert Affenita III and Coleton Reitan sparked the Adelphi comeback.

In the meantime, the Panthers nearly batted around in the fifth and tied the game on the strength of a Jack Wishner sacrifice fly. Pellegrino put the wheels in motion again with a lead-off single to start the inning.

Affenita has now allowed only one earned run in his last 7.1 innings. Reitan has established himself as Adelphi's closer and set a season-high with eight strikeouts for his third save of the season.

Head Coach Bill Ianniciello and his Adelphi squad play again tomorrow (Apr. 13), traveling to Pomona, N.Y. for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch at Dominican University.
