Oceanside, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University women's tennis team was unable to finish off Post University in a 4-3 loss at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.
Even with losing the doubles point, the Panthers (9-8) found themselves on the cusp of winning the match, on the strength of their singles play.
Barbie Quagliardi and
Amanda Franstedt individually won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, while
Julia Kielan went the distance in a 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 victory in third singles.
Katarina Liedbeck's No. 2 singles match needed the full three sets, as well. Despite taking the first set 6-3, Liedbeck lost the next two, snapping her perfect spring streak.
Carolina Chaves could not overcome her opponent at No. 5 singles, falling 4-6, 3-6.Â
The same held true for
Jenelle Downer, who -- after winning the first set -- lost in three (6-2, 4-6, 2-6) in the decisive No. 6 singles match.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad are back in action Wednesday (Apr. 5) in a 12 noon first serve at Queens College.
