Flushing, N.Y. - On Wednesday, the Adelphi University women's tennis team suffered a tough-luck 4-3 defeat at the hands of competitive rival Queens College in Flushing.
Since prevailing 4-0 over Daemen to open its spring schedule back on Mar. 5, the Panthers have lost four straight and end the season at 9-9 overall.
Although the match was already decided at that point,
Sanne Selmer Gilje played singles for the first time this spring, and took down the 2021 ECC Player of the Year -- Maja Makal -- in three sets.
Despite dropping the opener 6-2, the reigning NE10 Rookie of the Year came back to snatch the final two sets out of Makal's hands by 6-3 scorelines.
Barbie Quagliardi played a tense match at No. 2 singles. Not only did she win the first set in a 7-6 (8-6) tiebreaker, Quagliardi went to a 10-point tiebreaker in the third set and prevailed 10-8.
As she prepares to graduate,
Amanda Franstedt stepped in at No. 6 singles for the first time in her career and won 6-0, 6-2 in straight sets.
