Garden City, N.Y. - It was a milestone night for
Joseph Duchnowski, who tallied his 100th career point in an Adelphi uniform as the no. 4 Panthers rolled to a 19-1 non-conference victory against Caldwell on Wednesday evening.
Duchnowski, who played one season with NYIT before the pandemic, has reached the milestone in less than three seasons, after putting up a team-leading 52 points a season ago. His fifth point of the contest, a goal assisted by
Jack Hipchen at 3:07 in the second quarter pushed him to the century mark, just five games into the season.
Leading the offensive charge, as the Brown and Gold have now outscored their opponents 89-24, was
Brian Harinski who finished with four tallies. Duchnowski put up two scores and three assists to lead the team with five points, as 13 other individuals recorded at least a point.
Through the first quarter alone, Adelphi (5-0) scored seven straight while Caldwell only got off one shot after suffering nine unsuccessful clear attempts. Five different players, including
Dylan Barry and
Eamon Hall each registered a goal in the outburst. The second frame looked much like the opener as the home team managed 14 shots, 10 of which landed on goal. Starting keeper for the Cougars stopped five of those attempts, but the Panthers ran their score up to 12 heading into the halftime break.
A switch in goal for the hosts saw
Kyle Cash between the pipes, where he managed a one save, one goal allowed 15 minute span, but by the then, the offense had put the game well out of reach. Caldwell's Jayden Paladino scored the lone goal for the visiting team, while Adelphi added two more and then tack on another five in the closing quarter.
Billy Smithwick closed out the contest for Adelphi in goal, and within 30 seconds saw two saves to his stat line.
Kyle Lewis,
David Sanzone and Collin Hansen all scored in the final 15 of regulation, with
Logan Tucker adding a pair for the home team.
Gordon Purdie and his squad have now opened the season with five straight wins for the second consecutive year, and will look to at to that streak in 10 days, when they host Southern New Hampshire at 1:00 p.m. on Mar. 18.
