Women's Tennis Downs Daemen in Spring Opener, 4-0

Queens, N.Y. - As the Adelphi University women's tennis team aims for an at-large bid to this year's NCAA Tournament, the Panthers made their case a little bit better with a 4-0 win over Daemen University in their 2023 spring opener at the Alley Pond Tennis Courts.

The No. 1 doubles team got a rest for the Panthers, as the No. 2 and No. 3 teams only lost a combined one game at their respective flights.

Katarina Liedbeck and Amanda Franstedt were 6-1 winners in the No. 2 position, while fellow familiar partners Julia Kielan and Carolina Chaves prevailed 6-0 at third doubles.

In singles action, Caterina Federici came off the long winter break to a 6-3, 6-1 straight-set victory at the No. 3 flight. Liedbeck followed with a 7-5, 6-1 result in second singles.

After splitting the first two sets (7-5, 3-6) against her opponent at No. 1 singles, Barbie Quagliardi put the finishing touches on the match with a 10-5 third-set tiebreaker.

The surge towards a possible NCAA Tournament bid continues in two weeks with an 11 a.m. first serve at home against University of the District of Columbia on Saturday, Mar. 18.
