Queens, N.Y. - As the heat of chasing an NCAA at-large bid picks up, the Adelphi University women's tennis team lost a tough 5-2 decision to University of the District of Columbia on Saturday at the Alley Pond Tennis Center.
The difference in the contest was a pair of singles matches that both went to a third set.
With the match even at 2-apiece,
Barbie Quagliardi and
Julia Kielan both fell short in their bids for third-set victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Meanwhile,
Katarina Liedbeck continued her solid spring play, winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Liedbeck has now won her last four singles matches, and all eight of her dual singles victories this season have come in straight sets.
Reigning NE10 Rookie of the Year
Sanne Selmer Gilje made her spring debut at No. 1 doubles, and quickly returned to form with a 6-3 victory that helped the 'Cats to the team doubles point.
The spring schedule continues to present a tough challenge for the Panthers, who will travel to Sparkill next Sunday (Mar. 26) for a 12 p.m. first serve at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
