Slide Continues for Baseball in 13-8 Loss to Dominican

Garden City, N.Y. - Despite mounting a valiant comeback effort following an early 9-3 deficit, the Adelphi University baseball team still lost on Wednesday to Dominican University by a 13-8 final at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.

After an 8-7 start to the year, the Panthers have now dropped seven of eight to fall to 9-14 overall.

A Tim Feliz lead-off solo homer to right-center in the sixth, followed by a Kyle Olson sacrifice fly, had the Panthers within 12-8.

Adelphi brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth. With the bags full and two outs, Joe Pellegrino drew out a seven-pitch at-bat that resulted in an inning-ending groundout to third.

In the ninth, the Panthers left the tying run on deck. On three separate occasions with the bases loaded, Adelphi was unable to drive the ball out of the infield.

Dominican never relinquished the lead, although an Alex Rende RBI single in the second closed the gap to 4-3 at the time.

Adelphi sent five arms to the hill on the afternoon, and Zach Rovner shined in his home debut, to the tune of 3.1 strong innings.

With inclement weather set to arrive this weekend, the Panthers will instead begin their four-game series with the College of Saint Rose on Friday (Mar. 31) at 11 a.m. at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
