Pleasantville, N.Y. - Adelphi slipped into an early five-goal deficit and were unable to recover as they lost to the Setters of Pace University by a score of 15-5 in a Northeast-10 showdown on Wednesday evening.
One of the brights spots for the Brown and Gold were two-goal performances from
Kelly-Ann McGrath and
Alexandra Leggio.
The Panther's first score came at a desperate time when the team trailed 5-0. On a feed from
Samantha Pugh,
Izzy Grant fired a shot that put her team on the board to cut the deficit to four, but the home team managed a six-goal first to hold its advantage after the first 15 minutes of action.
Adelphi (5-3, 3-1 NE10) was held to just a pair of goals in the second as the Setters (7-1, 4-0 NE10) put five more in the back of the cage to lead 11-3 at the halftime break.
Madison Marchetta, who started in goal allowed 10 goals with four saves before bein replaced by rookie
Jillian McFadden shortly before the second quarter came to a close.
It was a scoreless third for the visitors from Long Island while Pace added another two to make it running clock heading into the final period of regulation.
Stretching over the final two frames, the Setters put together four goals to lead 15-3 before Leggio logged her pair of tallies, at the 6:05 and 10-second mark.
Both sides committed 20-plus turnovers, with the Panthers clearing 17-of-20 attempts, compared to a nearly perfect Pace team for the evening affair.
Adelphi will recognize the members of its graduating class prior to its noon game against Saint Anselm College on Saturday, Apr. 1.
