Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

#9 Women’s Lacrosse Hands #24 Saint Anselm First Loss in 2023, 13-10

Garden City, N.Y.- Backed by five goals from Kerrin Heuser, the no. 9 Adelphi women's lacrosse team took down the visiting no. 22 Saint Anselm Hawks, handing them their first loss in 2023, 13-10 on Saturday.

The victory marks a bounce back win after the Panthers (6-3, 4-1 NE10) fell to no. 2 Pace earlier in the week.

Adelphi didn't take long to find their offense, with three goals coming in the opening frame before Saint A's' Taylor Cobain cut the deficit to just two at the end of 15 minutes.

The second frame saw the hosts go on a tear of scoring, with five unanswered goals highlighted by Heuser's single quarter hat-trick. The Hawks responded with two late goals before the break to trail by five.

The pause was followed by an action-packed third frame that saw seven total goals between the two teams. Saint Anselm managed a buzzer-beating goal with 0.5 seconds left from Cobain that left the Panthers with a four-goal advantage with one final quarter of regulation.

With just four minutes to play in the contest, the Hawks had clawed back from their once seven-goal hole to make it just three. Around the three-minute mark, the road team's Erin Doyle gave up a crucial opportunity in the offensive zone when her pass was intercepted by the 'Cats Fiona Rafferty which halted the momentum the Hawks were mounting.

From there, the home team took control for most of the final minutes. Heuser added to her point total with an assist to Kelly-Ann McGrath. McGrath then fouled Saint Anselm's Alison Ferullo who converted on her free-position attempt for a man-up goal which rounded out her hat-trick as well before the final buzzer sounded.

The squad will be back in action this Tuesday, April 4 when they travel to New Haven to take on Southern Connecticut State. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
