Men's Tennis Stuns Perennial NE10 Contender SNHU, 5-2

Oceanside, N.Y. - In convincing fashion, the Adelphi University men's tennis team snapped an eight-year skid against Southern New Hampshire University with a 5-2 victory on Saturday at the Point Set Racquet Club in Oceanside.

Entering today's action, Adelphi had only beat SNHU twice in NE10 regular-season competition -- in 2014 and 2015.

The Panthers (7-5, 2-0 NE10) lost seven consecutive matches to the Penmen (5-5, 0-1 NE10), who were pegged as the conference's No. 2 favorite in 2023.

After winning the doubles point, the Adelphi fans were invited to Marko Jovanovic's straight-set decision over reigning NE10 Player and Rookie of the Year Jonathan Berling.

The Brown and Gold were resilient as the match went along, winning three key tiebreakers that cemented Adelphi's victory.

In No. 3 singles, Gabriel Balestero won a 7-6 (7-5) tiebreaker in the decisive third set against 2022 NE10 All-Conference player Fernando Torres.

Then, at No. 5 singles, Viktor Hockl only needed the minimum two sets, but took both via 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-3) tiebreakers.

Head Coach Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad are in action next on Wednesday (Mar. 29) at Franklin Pierce University at 10:30 a.m.
