Men's Tennis Handles UDC in Non-Conference Finale, 5-2

Queens, N.Y. - The Adelphi University men's tennis team has now won three of its last four, following a convincing 5-2 win over University of the District of Columbia on Saturday at the Alley Pond Tennis Center.

In Adelphi's final non-conference match of the season, the Panthers (6-5) more than got off on the right foot, with a sweep of all three doubles matches.

First-time partners Valentin Le Goupil-Maier and Marko Jovanovic led off the afternoon with a 6-3 result at No. 2 doubles. Then, at the No. 3 flight, Thomas Horsley and Thiago Negrao clinched the team doubles point for the 'Cats with a 7-5 decision, earning their fifth-consecutive victory in the process.

Their excellent play carried over into singles, where Adelphi prevailed in four of the six contests.

Hugo Munoz Reinoso has now won his last three at No. 2 singles, with a 6-2, 7-5 victory. Gabriel Balestero also won by the same scoreline at No. 3, improving his dual record to 7-4 on the year.

Viktor Hockl and Thiago Negrao were straight-set winners, as well. Hockl triumphed 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 flight, and Negrao cruised comfortably, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.

Head Coach Rebecca Fakas and the Panthers will now hit the home stretch of conference play, beginning next Saturday (Mar. 25) at 12 p.m. against Southern New Hampshire University.
