Manchester, N.H. - In what seemed to be a slow game at the start, resulted in a scoreless third quarter for Southern New Hampshire as the no. 8 ranked Adelphi University women's lacrosse team opened up conference play with a 12-4 victory on Saturday afternoon at Ouellette Stadium.
Behind a hat trick from
Izzy Grant and an 11-9 edge in draw controls overall, the Panthers (3-2, 1-0 NE10) move to above .500 for the first time this season.
Danielle Marino and
Kelly-Ann McGrath were also responsible for a pair of goals each, with the former adding three helpers for a team-leading five points.
After opening the contest with a 3-1 stretch after 15 minutes of work, the visitors went off in the second frame, tacking on another four to lead 7-2 at the break. Marino's second goal of the contest came as the quarter was expiring, a mere seven seconds remaining on the clock.
It was a scoreless third as
Madison Marchetta picked up two of her four saves as the Penmen managed five shot attempts, with two landing on goal. The home team was plagued with miscues in the opening half, committing 13 to Adelphi's six, as McGrath and
Nicolette Giordano both caused turnovers in the victory.
SNHU started off the final quarter of regulation with a tally to cut the deficit to six, but scores from Giovanna Zapparratta,
Alison Turner and McGrath kept their opponents at bay even despite the Penmen earning more draw controls wins in the last frame.
Adelphi will return to its home field for the next two games, starting on Mar. 22 when they host the University of New Haven at 5:00 p.m.
