Lantana, Fla. - An 11-9 loss befell the Adelphi University baseball team Friday against Bentley University, in its Florida finale at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana.
The Panthers (8-9) succumbed to the big inning once again, as a seven-run Bentley fourth kept the Falcons ahead.
Bentley sent nine batters to the plate that inning against Adelphi starter
John Rizzo, before
Tommy O'Sullivan was summoned from the bullpen.
Adelphi closed the gap in the fifth though. AÂ bases-clearing triple by
Alex Rende after three consecutive singles led off the inning closed the gap to 7-3.
The Brown and Gold were soon within 7-4, until a four-run inning of Bentley's doing in the fifth dispelled Adelphi's comeback.
Adelphi strung together five singles in the ninth and brought the tying run to the plate in an 11-9 game, but
Tim Feliz was picked off at first to end the game.
Rizzo was saddled with his first loss of the 2023 campaign. Fellow starter
Jordan Falco took the ball for 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Head Coach
Bill Ianniciello and the Panthers now return home to play Queens College on Tuesday (Mar. 21) at 3 p.m. at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.
