Late Rally Falls Short for Baseball Against Queens, 5-4

Garden City, N.Y. - A three-run homer from Michael Draskin got the Panthers within a run, but the Adelphi University baseball team's comeback fell short Tuesday in a 5-4 loss to Queens College at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field.

Draskin, who homered ten times from the right side of the plate a season ago, delivered a three-run homer with two outs in the eighth. His third roundtripper of 2023 had the 'Cats within a run of tying the game.

Graduate outfielder Tim Feliz kept the rally going with a single and stole second, before Greyson Pizzonia was rung up on a controversial strike three with the tying run in scoring position.

The Panthers (8-10) threatened throughout the day and even drew a lead-off walk across four separate innings. In each instance though, Queens worked around it by turning a crucial double play.

Adelphi put the lead-off runner on again in the home sixth. After coming on as a defensive replacement in the top of the inning, Alex Rende trotted home from third on a two-strike hit by Jack Wishner that cracked into a 3-0 Queens lead.

Even trailing 5-1 at the seventh-inning stretch, the Panthers loaded the bases with two outs to set the table for Albert Ramos as the potential game-tying run.

A pitch clock violation gave way to an eventual 3-0 count, before the freshman grounded into a fielder's choice on a 3-1 offering to end the inning.

Since winning his first collegiate decision, Brendan Kenneally has now lost his last three. Kenneally went four innings in the start and surrendered eight hits and three runs.

Head Coach Bill Ianniciello and the Panthers now prepare for the conference season, which begins this weekend (Mar. 24-26) with a four-game series at University of New Haven.
