Lantana, Fla. - For the third and final time this early season, the Adelphi University baseball team went head-to-head with Post University, only to lose the rubber game by a 13-4 decision on Thursday at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Lantana.
The Panthers (8-8) did strike first though, in only the second instance on the trip. A pair of two-RBI singles by
Tim Feliz in the top of the first and third innings staked Adelphi to the 2-0 advantage.
Senior pitcher
Steven Proko faced one over the minimum through his first two innings, but Post (9-11) tagged the right-hander for six runs in the third and never looked back.
Despite having the early two-run cushion, Adelphi found itself in a deep 10-2 hole midway through the contest.
The Panthers did load them up with two outs in the fifth and sixth innings, before Post starter Joe Christiana pitched out of the trouble.
Coleton Reitan had another strong outing in relief for the 'Cats. He let up just one hit, walked one and struck out a pair over three innings of work.
In addition to Feliz's two hits,
Albert Ramos put together a season-best 3-for-4 day out of the No. 9 hole.
Joe Pellegrino now has nine hits in his last 19 at-bats, following a 2-for-4 afternoon with the bat.
Adelphi wraps up its Florida swing tomorrow (Feb. 17) with an early 10 a.m. start against Bentley University at the Santaluces Sports Complex.
