Oceanside, N.Y. - On Saturday, the Adelphi University men's tennis team was unable to tame undefeated Jefferson University in a 7-0 loss in its spring home opener at Point Set Racquet Club.
A first-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles was what ultimately tilted the scales in the Rams' favor.
Jefferson's Hubert Theriault took the tiebreak, 7-6 (7-3), over
Marko Jovanovic and proceeded to win his match in straight sets, extending the visitors' lead to 3-0 in the process.
Two other singles matches also went to first-set tiebreaks. At No. 5 singles,
Reece Farrow fell behind early in a 6-7 (2-7) tiebreak.
Salomon Arce Lema lost 6-7 (4-7) in sixth singles.
Gabriel Balestero was the only Panther to take a set off their opponent. A 6-4 opening-set victory at No. 3 singles couldn't prevent the match from going the distance in a losing effort.
Head Coach
Rebecca Fakas and her Adelphi squad are right back at it tomorrow (Feb. 26) at Point Set, with a 12 noon first serve against Post University.
