Hibbs' Perfecto Seals Sweep of UNC Pembroke for #11 Softball; 8-5, 15-0

Pembroke, N.Y. - Junior pitcher Lindsey Hibbs accomplished perfection Wednesday to take both games of a doubleheader at UNC Pembroke at the UNCP Softball Field.

Following a thrilling 9-7 finish yesterday, the Panthers (6-2) outscored the Braves 23-5 this afternoon to complete the three-game sweep.

Game 1: Adelphi 8, UNC Pembroke 5
The hot bat of Zee Zee Shreter, who has opened the season 9-for-22 (.409), whirled out a first-inning homer for her second long ball in the last three games.

As Claire Fon got into an early groove in the circle and maintained the one-run lead, Shreter went deep again in the fifth, launching a two-out homer to left-center.

After rounding the bases for only one inside-the-park home run last season, Shreter has had a team-high-tying three balls leave the yard in only eight games.

The Panthers put together a 6-0 lead in the sixth, before UNC Pembroke started to make its way back against the Adelphi bullpen.

Hibbs came on to get the last out with the tying run on deck, and picked up her first save with a strikeout of UNC Pembroke clean-up hitter Lauren Hilbourn.

Game 2: Adelphi 15, UNC Pembroke 0
Finishing one strikeout shy of tying the NCAA Division II single-game record, Hibbs recorded twenty of the game's 21 outs via the K.

It was Hilbourn who accounted for the only at-bat that didn't result in a strikeout for the Braves. She led off the fifth inning with a popout to third base.

Hibbs' twenty strikeouts sets a new career-high for the reigning NFCA All-American, leading the way for her second career perfect game.

In the nightcap, Courtney Wengryn paced all players with four RBI, including a three-run homer in the seventh, as part of an 11-run inning.

Hibbs improved to 2-0 with the victory, and now possesses an impeccable 1.73 earned-run average. She has 55 strikeouts in her first 24.1 innings pitched.

The Panthers will enjoy a day off, and travel back to South Carolina for round-robin tournament play against Coker College and Shippensburg University on Friday (Feb. 24).
