Garden City, N.Y. - On Tuesday, the Adelphi University women's basketball team not only spent Senior Night honoring
Ty'zhea Hawkins, but taking it to NE10 rival The College of Saint Rose, 79-50, in its 2022-23 regular-season finale at the Center for Recreation and Sport.
On a night when all of her family was in attendance, Hawkins dropped her third-highest game of the season with an impeccable 29-point outing on 10-of-16 shooting.
Fellow point guard
Kaitlyn O'Connell nearly tied her career-high with 15 points, while
Jenna Jordan joined her in double figures with 13 points.
In the first half, Saint Rose (10-15, 7-13 NE10) couldn't match Adelphi's (10-15, 7-13 NE10) up-tempo offense, and the result was the hosts' largest halftime lead of the year.
While Saint Rose was 7-for-29 in the opening twenty, Adelphi shot 18-for-31 (58.1 percent) from the field to take a commanding 46-18 lead into intermission.
Leading 21-12 after the opening quarter, the Panthers scored the first eleven points of the second quarter and ran off a 25-6 outburst to open the floodgates.
While both teams have matching conference records, Adelphi possesses the tiebreaker and will enter the 2023 NE10 Championship as the No. 10 seed.
The Panthers will travel to No. 7 seed Southern Connecticut State University on Friday (Feb. 24) for a first-round match-up. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
